HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Globalization is a new historical reality, which is propelled by human values, knowledge and technological achievements. The rapid expansion and integration of peoples, polities and markets across national boundaries have attendant consequences that are both great and grave for the developing countries. However, there is a general belief in some quarters that less developed, and technologically disadvantaged countries, ought not to be able to take advantage of the increased opportunities that globalization offers thereby making them increasingly powerless and marginalized in global affairs. Despite Nigeria's abundant resources, both human and physical, the country fails to cater for the economic needs of its peoples due to the underutilization and mismanagement of these resources, caused by an obvious lack of responsible political leadership. Evidently, successful integration into the global economy shall be a tall order for Nigeria, considering the perceived challenges that confronted majority of Nigeria's Youths. Unfortunately, the country's leaders lack both focus and foresight in the form of a systematic, and periodic, economic development plan which is commensurate with the growing economic needs, and realities, of the Nigerian situation. This is believed to be caused by the failure to harness all other available resources to the fullest in order to minimize our over-dependence on the oil sector, which is currently the major source of revenue for the government. Hence, the emergence of the Northern Youth Assembly( MAJALISAR MATASAN AREWA) as a child of necessity. Northern Youth Assembly, like every other organization, was established with defined objectives and goals in 2009 and was born out of the desire for better political change in Nigeria by likeminded Youths and other Patriotic individuals across the nineteen Northern States and beyond, who also share a common and particular concern for the development of a united Nigeria. Northern Youth Assembly came as a child of necessity, with a clear mission to spearhead the struggle among the entire Northern Youths, and their counterparts in the South, through alliance for Political Reforms, capable of accommodating the peculiarities of Nigeria, in fair consideration to communal, religious and regional differences in order to ensure continuous, and peaceful, Co-existence among the peoples of Nigeria. The Northern Youth Assembly (MAJALISAR MATASAN AREWA) is Non-Partisan, Non-Religious and a Non-Tribal.
